Leicestershire CCC has furthered its support for the Lionheart Educational Trust by assisting with the launch of a new community sports hall.
All-rounders Ben Mike and Scott Steel attended the official opening at The Martin High School in Anstey on Thursday (7 July), as the latest commitment to the Trust’s family of Leicestershire-based schools.
The pair offered their expertise during the inaugural use of the facility, alongside joining students to participate in a lively game of indoor cricket.
The session was LCCC’s latest commitment to the flagship partnership, which has already seen the Club offer dedicated after-school coaching sessions across the Trust’s secondary schools and deliver the ‘Chance to Shine’ cricket coaching programme at all primary schools under the Lionheart umbrella.
Lionhearts’ students have also benefitted from regular invitations to Uptonsteel County Ground, with the Club dedicating its Vitality Blast match against Derbyshire to the Trust, as well as welcoming their pupils for the ‘Support Your County’ fixture against Sussex in May.
Laura Sanchez, Executive Principal at The Martin High School, said: “The new sports hall will be transformational, not only for our learners, but also the whole community.
“It was fantastic to welcome Scott Steel and Ben Mike to the official opening. Our young players were over the moon to have a hit with two of the Club’s professionals.â€
Chris Tinbergen, Commercial Manager for Consumer Sales at Leicestershire CCC, said: “It was great to be able to support the school, who clearly have some talented young cricketers.
“We look forward to working with the Lionheart Trust further in the new academic year and are excited by what we have planned.â€
The Club intends to further develop the unique partnership by introducing career advice days for the 2022/23 academic year, offering an insight into a diverse spectrum of job opportunities available in sport.
