Foxes welcome Tourists

by Sam Chambers

Leicestershire play host to international action this Sunday (July 3) when Pakistan A take on Sri Lanka A in a four-day Tourist match here at the Fischer County Ground.

Pakistan A will go into the contest on the back of a promising performance against county champions Yorkshire this past week.

Mir Hamza (19.4-5-53-4) and Hasan Ali (18-4-69-3) helped to bowl the White Rose county out for 246 before wicket-keeper Mohammad Hasan fell agonisingly short of his ton on 98, as the tourists posted a first-innings total of 357 all out.

Yorkshire made 57-0 as the match finished on a draw, but Pakistan will take confidence from a solid all-round effort.

The Sri Lankans, meanwhile, also looked in good nick in their match at Durham. They posted a total of 353 all out - Roshene Silva's 109 the pick of the batting  - before Vishva Fernando's five-for helped to restrict the home side to 205 all out, giving Sri Lanka a commanding first innings lead of 148.

They then added another 143 for the loss of two wickets but would also settle for a draw after dominating the action throughout.

With both sides putting in positive performances, there should be plenty of high-quality talent over the four days, making for an entertaining spectacle of cricket.

Tickets are priced at £5 for adults and concessions and £1 under 16s. To purchase, please visit
