Future Stars of LCCC Introduced to the Club

The Running Foxes introduced their wave of Academy Scholars for the 2021/22 season to the Club earlier in the week on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

Taking place in the Charles Palmer Suite at the Uptonsteel County Ground, the session was attended by all 10 members of the Academy Scholars, as well as key figures from around the Club including Head Coach Paul Nixon and Director of Cricket Claude Henderson.

Head of Academy, Alastair Maiden lead the session which was a chance to give the Scholars an insight into the values of the Running Foxes, and what role the Leicestershire CCC Academy plays at the Uptonsteel County Ground.

The LCCC Academy has a rich history in producing players that have gone on to represent the County in First-Class cricket, and in some cases, England on the international stage.

Stuart Broad, arguably the Club’s finest export currently sits second on the all-time wicket takers list in Test cricket for England, with 524 to his name at the time of writing.

Another product of the LCCC Academy that has gone on to earn international honours for England is the recently retired Harry Gurney, having made 12 appearances across both white-ball formats.

The Running Foxes squad currently includes Academy graduates such as Lewis Hill, Ben Mike, Sam Evans, Harry Swindells, Sam Bates, Nat Bowley, and most recently, Rehan Ahmed who made his List A debut in 2021.

Commenting of the evening, Alastair Maiden said: “It is always great to hold an induction session with future stars of the Club and begin their journey in becoming a professional cricketer.

“The Club has a great tradition of moving players from the Academy set up to the First Team set up, with a number of Academy graduates littered throughout the First Team at present.”

Not only do the Running Foxes focus on engraining the Club’s tradition and values into the Scholars, but the invitation is also extended to their immediate family as an exercise to take the Club’s values and tradition into life outside of cricket.
