The Running Foxes are back on home turf as Glamorgan make the trip to the Uptonsteel County Ground on Thursday, 5 August 2021.
Leicestershire will look to get back to winning ways following consecutive defeats on the road to Warwickshire and Notts Outlaws.
Meanwhile, Glamorgan travel to the Uptonsteel County Ground following a 5-wicket victory against Surrey.
Last Time We Met
We have to go all the way back to 2013 to find a List A match between the Running Foxes and Glamorgan, which was played at St. Helen’s, Swansea. This was a Yorkshire Bank 40 Over match, and having won the toss and deciding to bat first, our hosts posted an impressive 303-6 from their 40 overs with Chris Cooke top scoring with 85 (76b).
In reply, Leicestershire only managed 235-6, with Niall O’Brien hitting 92 (121b) and Michael Thornely providing further resistance with 68 (62b), and former Fox Jim Allenby taking 3-37 with the ball for Glamorgan.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, there are no current members of the Leicestershire squad who played in that match, although Glamorgan could have two players from it - Michael Hogan and Andrew Salter - lining up for them against us. Top-scorer in that match, Cooke, is away playing The Hundred with Birmingham Phoenix.
Head to Head
Harry Swindells v Hamish Rutherford
Running Foxes opener Swindells has just started his List A career, and has done so in impressive fashion with 69 against Warwickshire, featuring in a 159-run opening partnership with Rishi Patel in that match. Swindells has enjoyed a breakthrough season, particularly in red-ball cricket where he currently averages 41.84 in 10 matches, and will keen to make a point that he can offer similar strong returns in white-ball cricket as well.
Opposition opener Hamish Rutherford, top-scored for Glamorgan in their low-scoring win over Surrey on Tuesday afternoon with an impressive 58 (52b), which included 10 fours and one six.
The New Zealand international, who has played four 50 over matches for his country, has hit 3,557 runs in List A cricket, at an impressive average of 37.44 and strike rate 96.36, and those runs include 12 centuries - so keeping Rutherford quiet will be high on the list of priorities for the Leicestershire bowling attack in this match.
