Leicestershire all-rounder Ben Raine said the team will keep striving to improve despite a strong all-round performance on the first day of the LV=CC match against Northamptonshire.
Raine, who took a career-best 4-55 a couple of days after signing a new contract at the club, added that the team is in a good place as they head into the second day of the contest.
He said: “We got them 251 all out on a what is, to be honest, a pretty good pitch. I think we thought it would do a bit more. We bowled quite well in patches, but in patches we didn’t.
“So we’re still looking to improve on where we are but we’re very positive at the minute - 10 wickets on a first day, we’re happy with that.
“There were a couple of times last year where I got two wickets in two balls but I’ve never managed to get my hat-trick yet. It was bizarre to have two chances at it!
“I genuinely feel around the camp that there is a real strong belief that we will win games. It’s not just ‘we’ve got to win a game this year’ - our aim for this year is promotion.
“A lot of people might look at that and say it’s a stupid thing but we genuinely believe that as a group of players we can compete and can be promoted.”
