The ICC World Cup starts tomorrow with Leicestershire County Cricket Club well represented in the tournament.
Niall O’Brien and Rob Taylor are playing for Ireland and Scotland respectively. For Taylor, this will be his first taste of the World Cup, while O’Brien will be representing his country at a seventh major competition.
The teams have been involved in warm-up matches recently with Scotland landing a very good victory against Ireland earlier this week.
There were encouraging signs for both sides today as Ireland won against Bangladesh by four wickets while Scotland fell agonisingly short in their pursuit of 314 to see off the West Indies. Taylor bowled eight overs for 52 and instigated two run outs in the three-run defeat, while O’Brien made 5 in his time at the wicket.
Both teams will take plenty of confidence from those matches as they look ahead to the tournament proper.
Ireland’s first game is against the West Indies on Sunday evening (GMT) in Nelson while Scotland play the following night against host nation New Zealand in Dunedin.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish Niall and Rob all of the best for the tournament. We'll keep you all updated with their progress as the action unfolds.
