Griffiths signs for Leicestershire

Leicestershire CCC is delighted to confirm the signing of former Lancashire paceman Gavin Griffiths on a two-year contract.

The 22-year-old Griffiths is currently enjoying a successful loan spell at Hampshire and will join Leicestershire at the end of the 2016 season. His recent spell on the south coast has included a performance where he took 3-33 in a NatWest T20 Blast game against Sussex Sharks at Hove.

Griffiths previously caught the eye against Hampshire after being handed his Lancashire Lightning NatWest T20 debut on Finals Day in 2015.

Despite the pressurised nature of the situation, Griffiths bowled a maiden with his first six balls in the shortest form of the game to help Lightning qualify for the showpiece game.

The Ormskirk-born seamer went on to play for Lightning in the Final as they defeated Northamptonshire Steelbacks in a thrilling contest.

In all white ball cricket, Griffiths has made a highly promising start to his career in taking ten wickets in 11 appearances.

Griffiths previously gained national recognition with England’s under 17 and under 19 sides, including a tour to South Africa in early 2013 with the latter, after coming through the age-groups and Academy at Emirates Old Trafford.

Leicestershire CCC Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “In addition to the recent signings of Richard Jones and Dieter Klein, Gavin will add competition and depth to our seam bowling ranks.

“Gavin was extremely impressive making his T20 debut for Lancashire in testing circumstances and has also made an impact while on loan at Hampshire, so we’re delighted that he is joining us.

“He’s only 22 and has had a good upbringing at Lancashire, so we’re looking forward to Gavin continuing his career development with us at the Fischer County Ground.”
