Harry Swindells and Sam Evans extend contracts

Leicestershire CCC is delighted to announce that Academy graduates Harry Swindells and Sam Evans have extended their contracts with the club.

Swindells has signed for a further two years while Evans has penned a contract for the 2020 season having been on a summer contract for the last three years.

The 21-year-old Swindells, one of two Leicester-born wicket-keepers at the club, made his Specsavers County Championship debut earlier in the year against Lancashire CCC at Aigburth, a match which ended with the Foxes grinding out a determined draw.

Swindells has gone on to make 18 appearances in all competitions, and was promoted to open the batting for the Foxes for the Vitality Blast.

He posted 168 runs in the Specsavers County Championship, and 190 in white ball cricket, including half-centuries against Birmingham Bears and Notts Outlaws in the Vitality Blast. Further, he has taken 15 catches and a stumping in what was a breakthrough season.

Evans has now finished his geography degree at Loughborough University and will have a full winter of cricket, both training and matches.

Top order batsman Evans has made a strong comeback from injury in 2019. He played against Middlesex CCC in the Specsavers County Championship, and featured heavily in the Second XI’s charge to the final of the Championship, where they were edged out by Hampshire CCC.

Both cricketers will spend part of their winters in Sydney before returning to pre-season training at the Fischer County Ground.

Swindells said: “It’s been a dream come playing for my hometown club for the last two years and I can’t wait for the next two.”

Evans added: “I’m pleased to sign a new contract with the club I grew up supporting, and I am looking forward to the 2020 season after spending the winter in Australia.”

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Paul Nixon said: “Harry and Sam continue to make great progress with us having come through our Academy, and we look forward to that continuing in the future. Having some tough cricket in Australia will be good for their development, and we look forward to working with them when they return."
