High-scoring thriller against tourists

Scorecard

REPORT | By Pete Johnson

Leicestershire Second XI and Queen’s Park played out a high-scoring thriller at Lutterworth CC in a 50-over Friendly fixture yesterday.

Queen's Park are from the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago, and are on a three-week UK tour, taking in matches in Leicestershire, Yorkshire, and Sussex. Although mid morning rain had been forecast, sunny skies were the order of the day.

Lutterworth CC had really pulled the stops out in hosting this fixture, a BBQ was running throughout the day, and the full ‘one-day’ experience was in evidence with music being played when a boundary was hit, or at the fall of a wicket.

Dan Redfern won the toss and asked Queens Park to bat first. They rattled up 311 from their allotted 50 overs with Jeremy Solozono and Kevon Cooper playing major roles with the bat.

Solozono made 106. His 50 coming up from 80 balls (8x4), and his 100 from 123 balls (16x4/2x6). Keep an eye out for this young man, he has played for West Indies Under 19, and I feel he may at sometime grace the scorecard of a level or two above.

Cooper weighed in with 75 from 48 balls. His 50 coming up from 39 balls (6x4). Pick of the County bowlers were Tom Wells with 3-39 and Redfern with 3-56.

In reply County fell just 17 runs short being bowled out for 295. Alex Kent top scored with 74 from just 59 balls. His 50 from 44 balls (4x4/2x6).

Michael Burgess spanked a run a ball 60, his 50 from 53 balls (7x4).Other commendable knocks came from Redfern 46 from 50 balls, Wells 22 from 25. Trialist Will Hale opening the innings made 23 from 48 balls, and there was a cameo at the end from George Corbett 20 from 18 balls.

A thoroughly enjoyable day hosted by Lutterworth CC, and sincere thanks to everyone for their splendid hospitality, and also to a young man named Joe who operated the manual Scoreboard for us all day. Thanks also to Tour Manager David Cawthorn for making it all possible.

I mentioned earlier that music was played when a boundary was hit or a wicket fell. I heard Fire by Kasabian, during the day just a couple more times than I heard it in 90 minutes last Saturday at the KPS if it is any consolation to Ben Raine should he have a read of this...

* Queen's Park conclude their tour of Leicestershire with a game against Kibworth on Wednesday. The 50-over game starts at 1pm.
