Hill helps to beat reigning champions

Lewis Hill was the star Leicestershire CCC staff performer in the opening round of the Leicestershire and Cricket Rutland Premier League, sponsored by Everards.

James Sykes bowled 10 overs for just 30 runs as reigning champions Loughborough Town posted 195 all out and Hill then scored a cultured 107 not out to steer Lutterworth to an impressive eight-wicket victory.

The drawn game between Market Harborough and Syston saw Zak Chappell come up against Alex Wyatt.

Chappell, playing purely as a batsman, made 27 and Wyatt returned figures of 8-1-25-2 as Harborough scored 193-8 in reply to Syston’s 213-4.

There was a magnificent performance from Leicestershire Young Cricketer Yuvraj Odedra, who made a stunning 145 not out as Barrow Town amassed 328-8 against Kegworth Town.

Kegworth responded with 254 all out, Odedra taking two wickets as his side won by 74 runs to claim 30 points.

Another side to land maximum points were Kibworth. Leicestershire Academy player Joe Clarke took a wicket for Sileby Town but Sundeep Patel scored 72 in a total of 218-4. Sileby were bowled out for 153 in reply.

Leicester Ivanhoe and Rothley Town both lost only one wicket in chasing down potentially tricky targets of 181 and 208 at Hinckley Town/City Cricket Academy and Thorpe Arnold respectively.

Academy player Sam Evans made 68 in an opening stand of 168 with Matt Twigg (119*) in Ivanhoe's win while former Leicestershire player Charlie Dagnall made 77 as Rothley won the battle of the newcomers.
