Leicestershire CCC is delighted to announce that Paul Horton has signed a two-year contract extension at the Fischer County Ground.
Current club captain Horton becomes the third experienced batsman to recently commit his future until at least the end of the 2020 season following Colin Ackermann and Mark Cosgrove.
The opening batsman has had a highly successful professional career in which he has amassed 15,771 runs across all three formats of the game, including a highest first-class score of 209.
During his three years at Leicestershire CCC, Horton has posted 2,259 runs in the three competitions, including three centuries.
He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leicestershire County Cricket Club, and I’m delighted to sign a new deal here.
“I’ve really enjoyed this season, and I’m looking forward to the remainder of the campaign as we’ve been playing some really solid red ball cricket.”
Horton has been an extremely consistent performer in 2018. His 462 Specsavers County Championship runs have been scored at an average of 35.53, and the batsman has added a further 284 runs at 35.50 in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
Head Coach Paul Nixon said: “It’s great news that Horts [Paul Horton] has signed for another two years here. He has been a key performer in our side in both red and white ball cricket.
“Horts’ performances have been solid and he is a top-class leader. He has played an important role in a number of successful run chases, as well as setting the tone in the first innings of [Specsavers County] Championship games.
“His century in the first 50-over game at Northants was excellent too, giving us a good start in that particular competition. We’re delighted that Horts has committed his future to us for the next two years.”
