ICC Nissan Trophy Tour to champion Leicester heroes

- ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup to tour together for first time

- Trophy Tour to visit the seven host cities of both tournaments in England and Wales over 30 days

- Starts on May 2 in Taunton and finishes at The Oval on June 1

- Both Trophies will visit Leicester from May 21 to 24

Heroes will become champions as part of the ICC Nissan Trophy Tour, as fans Leicester get the opportunity to nominate people that deserve to be recognised for their contribution to cricket and the wider community.

Whether it’s the groundsman at a local club, a teacher/coach that inspires people to take up cricket, or a youngster who is dedicated to developing his/her cricketing skills, the Trophy Tour will champion them. People can nominate HERE. Winners will receive two tickets to a ICC Champions Trophy 2017 or ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 match.  

The combined tour over 30 days during May will see the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup travel together for the first time ever to visit each of the seven host cities for the two tournaments.

It will start in Taunton on Tuesday, May 2 and finish at The Oval on Thursday, June 1 for the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, England v Bangladesh. Both Trophies will be in Leicester from Sunday, May 21 to Wednesday, May 24.

The other key dates are:

- May 5, 6 and 11 – Bristol

- May 7 to 10 – Cardiff

- May 13 to 17 – Birmingham

- May 18 to 20 – Derby

- May 25 to 31 – London

Chief Executive of the ICC, Dave Richardson, said: “For the first time ever we are combining the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup Nissan Trophy Tours meaning we can reach more fans than ever before.

“The Trophy Tour provides a wonderful opportunity to bring fans closer to the game and build excitement for back to back events in the U.K. this summer. It also gives us the chance to celebrate local heroes who are the real champions of our sport.”

The Trophy Tour will visit clubs, schools and iconic locations in Leicester to allow as many fans as possible to see the Trophies during the build up to the tournaments. Some of the highlights will include:

21 May 2017 - Girls cricket tournament at Kibworth CC (10am-12pm)

21 May 2017 - Grace Road during Leicestershire v Kent in the Specsavers County Championship (12.30pm-2pm)

21 May 2017 - Leicester Caribbean Cricket Club (3pm-5pm)

24 May 2017 - Leicestershire Primary School visit

24 May 2017 - Leicestershire Secondary School visit

24 May 2017 - Leicester City Centre - Gallowtree Gate near Sporting Capital statue (3pm-4.45pm)

Leicestershire CCC Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “It is absolutely fantastic that the people of Leicester will get to see the two major trophies as they make their way across the country. We are hugely excited to be a part of the ICC Nissan Trophy Tour as well as hosting a prestigious global event.”

The ICC Champions Trophy has been on an international tour of the eight participating countries since the start of March. The Trophy started in India and is currently travelling around South Africa. The international tour will finish in Australia on 27 April before it comes to England and Wales to join with the ICC Women’s World Cup.
