Scotland won their first ever match at an ICC major tournament with an emphatic eight-wicket verdict against Hong Kong in the ICC World Twenty20.
An excellent performance by Scotland’s bowling attack, including Leicestershire’s Rob Taylor (2-0-12-0), ensured Hong Kong were restricted to 127-7. The spin trio of Con de Lange, Matt Machan and Mark Watt combined to return figures of 12-0-66-4.
Poor weather meant that Scotland were set a revised target of 78 in ten overs and they achieved that with twelve balls to spare.
Contributions came from George Munsey (19 off 11), Kyle Coetzer (20* off 19), former Leicestershire Second XI player Matt Cross (22 off 14) and Machan (15* off 8).
* Ireland’s campaign finished in a 12-run defeat to the Netherlands after rain in Dharamsala restricted the sides to a six-over game.
The Netherlands batted first and managed to post 59-5 despite slow left armer George Dockrell claiming brilliant figures of 3-7 off two overs. Ireland ended on 47-7 after Paul van Meekeren took 4-11 from two overs of seam.
Kevin O’Brien (0) batted at number three and fell to a stunning catch by Pieter Seelar while Niall O’Brien, who took a stumping and played his part in two runs outs, was left on 4 not out as the game reached a frantic finale.
* Leicestershire’s two NatWest T20 Blast overseas players Umar Akmal and Rilee Rossouw will be in action in the tournament for the first time this week. Pakistan take on Bangladesh on Wednesday while South Africa’s first match is against England on Friday.
