Ireland lose to in form South Africa

Niall O'Brien's Ireland came up against in-form South Africa in the ICC World Cup today.

The Proteas excelled with the bat against West Indies recently and again demonstrated their strength in that department by posting a daunting 411-4.

It was the second consecutive game that South Africa has scored more than 400, Hashim Amla and Francois du Plessis both scoring hundreds on this occasion after AB de Villiers' brilliance last Friday.

O'Brien made 14 batting at number 4 as Ireland scored 210 in reply. Andy Balbirnie made a half-century while Niall's brother Kevin fell two short of 50 in another fine innings.

It was Ireland's first loss in three matches in the tournament so they have plenty to play for as they bid to secure a quarter final place.

* Kyle Coetzer made a tremendous 156 as Scotland made a highly competitive 318-8 against Bangladesh in their fourth match of the ICC World Cup on Thursday.

But Bangladesh's senior batsmen guided them to victory with Tamim Iqbal scoring 95, Mahmudullah 62, and Mushfiqur Rahim 60. Former Leicestershire all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan ended on 52 not out as Scotland's hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals were ended.
