Ivanhoe and Barrow involved in thriller

Leicester Ivanhoe and Barrow played out a magnificent game in the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League, sponsored by Everards.

Both sides were bowled out for 217 with the hosts being dismissed in the 49th over despite Matt Twigg continuing his fine season with 59.

Barrow had an extra over to get the runs, and Mo Bobat scored 52 not out, but Leicestershire Academy player Harry Swindells had a major effect on the game.

‘Keeper Swindells threw down the stumps at the striker’s end to ensure that Barrow were bowled out with the final ball of the 51st over , so the sides took 16 points apiece at Hinckley Road.

Kibworth remain top of the table and now have a 23-point lead after they successfully chased down 186 to win by five wickets at Rothley Park. Sunny Patel’s 72 paved the way to victory.

Sileby Town are now joint second with Lutterworth after having the better of a draw against their rivals.

Luke Gale’s superb 129, including a stand of 123 in 16 overs with Neil Pullen (45), helped Sileby score 255-7. Lutterworth closed on 205-8 with David Tew making 52. Jordan King and Umar Afzal each took three wickets for Sileby.

Zak Chappell made an unbeaten 19 as Market Harborough landed a comfortable eight-wicket win at Kegworth Town.

Former Northamptonshire and Sussex all-rounder Kevin Innes took 4-18 as Kegworth were bowled out for 84, and Innes (25*) and Chappell then saw their side home.

Loughborough Town scored in excess of 300 for the second week running. Shyam Patel (94), Ronaka Ahangamage (82) and captain Dips Patel (72) excelled in a total of 317-9 before Rob McKinley was again in fine fettle in snaring 5-36.

Craig Crowe (84) and Tom Payne (53) were in the runs for a Hinckley side who are three points behind Loughborough in sixth. They completed a fourth victory of the season, this time by a 129-run margin against Thorpe Arnold, who were 80-1 before slipping to 160 all out.
