Jack Birkenshaw MBE re-elected as Club President

Following the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held online via Zoom on Tuesday 30, March 2021, Leicestershire County Cricket Club can announce that Jack Birkenshaw MBE has been re-elected as the Club’s President.

Jack was first elected as Club President during the 2019 AGM.

He is a former running fox having been a player and a coach at the club. His first-class career record with the Foxes was exceptional amassing over 11,000 runs with four centuries.

His deceptive slow bowling technique led to him taking 908 wickets throughout his career.

Jack oversaw one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. He steered the team, which included Head Coach Paul Nixon to two County Championship titles in 1996 and 1998.

On being re-elected, Jack said: "I am delighted to continue as President of Leicestershire County Cricket Club. Obviously the past two years have been very strange with little cricket, but hopefully this year will change that.

"We have a young, entertaining squad at Leicestershire this year, and despite the tough start we have had against Hampshire those youngsters are itching to get a chance and prove themselves under difficult circumstances.

"I personally am looking forward to watching our current squad improve and become high-class cricketers for us.

"For now though, hopefully we win a good number of games this season and when that first win comes we will be able to dedicate it to Big Phil who will certainly be missed around the Club."
