Jarvis Pleads for Fan Support Ahead of T20 Campaign

Leicestershire County Cricket Club CEO, Sean Jarvis, has urged the people of Leicestershire to rally behind the Club for the upcoming T20 campaign by supporting Paul Nixon's side at Uptonsteel County Ground.

2022’s competition begins later this month with a double-header at Grace Road, as the Leicestershire Foxes host Durham Cricket (Thursday, 26 May) before East Midlands rivals Derbyshire Falcons arrive on the Saturday (28 May).

Uptonsteel County Ground will host seven thrilling T20 encounters in total, as Lancashire Lightning (Tuesday, 7 June), Notts Outlaws (Friday, 10 June) and Worcestershire Rapids (Friday, 17 June) all visit, before the group stage concludes with another double-header on home soil, as LCCC take on Northamptonshire Steelbacks (Friday, 1 July) and Yorkshire Vikings (Sunday, 3 July).

Ahead of the opening fixtures, CEO, Jarvis, has pleaded with the LCCC faithful to show their support for the Club, saying: “We are incredibly proud to stand as the most successful county in T20 history, but we need the support of our community to not only help the Club to try and secure a fourth but also to continue its ambitions to thrive.

“We have seven home fixtures and these seven events with full crowds can make a significant difference to the financial future of the Club. Without the support of our fans and businesses, quite simply, we wouldn’t survive.”

Jarvis continued: “T20s are critical financially for the Club, so the more fans and businesses that back us, the better. We are member run and don’t have rich benefactors to help us, so every penny spent at the Club can’t be underestimated. To paraphrase Lord Kitchener,: ‘Your County Needs You’”.

Head Coach Nixon, an unrivalled three-time champion as a player with the Running Foxes, will be hoping to lead his side to a fourth title, as the Vitality Blast marks its 20th anniversary this summer.

Leicestershire’s ambitions to add to their rich T20 heritage will be boosted by the return of Afghanistan superstar Naveen-ul-Haq, who topped the competition’s wicket-taking charts last season with 26, while his international teammate Rahmanullah Gurbaz is set to headline the batting with his big-hitting expertise.

Uptonsteel County Ground has already played host to some of the Blast’s most famous moments, from the thrilling 204-run chase in the 2011 quarter-final versus Kent to captain Colin Ackermann’s world-record figures of 7-18 against Birmingham Bears in 2019.

Tickets for the initial double-header weekend have exceeded 2019 sales, with fans encouraged to purchase their seats in advance. Individual tickets can be purchased HERE, while a Vitality Blast Season Ticket for all seven games can be purchased HERE.
