Leicestershire Second XI’s Championship victory attempt was thwarted by a strong Warwickshire batting line-up at Moseley.
The hosts started on 14-0 in pursuit of an unlikely 479 but they batted solidly throughout the day to claim six draw points while Leicestershire collected 13.
Warwickshire’s top four all have plenty of first team experience and that was a valuable asset in denying Leicestershire on the final day.
Alex Wyatt (18-7-34-0) bowled tidily throughout, and Zak Chappell (11-2-50-1) gave Leicestershire a boost by bowling Ian Westwood (18) in the 10th over of the morning, but a matchsaving stand developed between William Porterfield and Ateeq Javid.
The duo put on 122, but more importantly soaked up 42.5 overs, before Aadil Ali (19-1-46-1) had the Ireland international caught by George Corbett for 58.
Javid went on to add 62 with fellow talented young batsman Sam Hain, who scored 42 before being stumped by Michael Burgess off skipper Neil Pinner (5-0-10-1).
Javid registered his century shortly afterwards from 206 balls with ten fours and two sixes and although Freddie Coleman (6) was trapped lbw by Liam Hurt (12-3-31-1), the captains shook hands at 5pm with Warwickshire on 244-4.
The two teams now meet in a brace of T20 matches tomorrow at Edgbaston, which will be a good experience for this young Leicestershire side.
