Leicestershire County Cricket Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Board Director, John Allen, who has died at the age of 80.
A Chartered Accountant, John joined the Board of Directors as finance specialist in 2007, and held the maximum number of terms, serving until 2018.
He enjoyed long-standing connections with professional sports clubs in the city, having been a member at LCCC for more than 25 years before joining the board, while he made 457 appearances for Leicester Tigers between 1961 and 1975 as a revered scrum-half.
John later went on to be a rugby administrator, fulfilling roles as treasurer, secretary, and director at the Tigers across a further 20 years of service before making the switch to LCCC.
Steve Kind, Board Director at Leicestershire CCC, said: “John was somebody that I always respected. He was an extremely knowledgeable accountant with a sharp brain whenever it came to the figures.
“He was a private person, but had a brilliantly dry sense of humour and plenty of amusing stories from his career in professional rugby.
“John was a passionate supporter of all professional sports clubs in Leicester and was a fantastic servant to sport in the city.â€
Everybody connected with Leicestershire County Cricket Club would like to pass on their condolences to John’s family and friends at this difficult time.
