Jonathan Agnew MBE, former professional cricketer and well-known sports broadcaster, shows his support for Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC) by becoming a Running Fox Ambassador.
He joins the voluntary ambassadorial programme, having been invited by the clubs Board Members, to promote the core values and vision of the Club.
Agnew, a former Leicestershire CCC fast bowler said he was honoured to be a Running Fox to broaden the appeal of the club to a wider audience.
As part of the Club’s ambitious plans, a focus is upon becoming the Academy of Cricket, where young and aspiring cricketers can learn and develop to become future stars of the game.
On joining the Ambassadorial Programme, Agnew said: “It means a lot to be approached by the club to become one of the first Running Foxes. Having played for Leicestershire CCC for more than ten years, I’m proud to be a part of this programme which promotes the values and vision of the club.
“County cricket plays a vital role within the sport, shaping future professional players. As the club are focusing on becoming the Academy of Cricket, this creates a pathway for players who have the talent to be the future players for England but are not always given the opportunity. This is something I am, personally, very passionate about.”
Sean Jarvis, CEO for LCCC said: “As we embark on our new chapter and have many exciting initiatives planned, we are keen to build relationships with as many people as possible.
“Leicestershire CCC wants to become known as the Academy of Cricket, generating elite players who can move up the ranks into professional teams so they can achieve their career aspirations.
“Our new ambassadorial scheme is supported by figureheads like Agnew who kindly agreed and shares our ambitions. Having Aggers as one of our Running Foxes is a major boost for us and there’s no doubt his support will bring benefits to the club.
“We are selecting people who share our values and passion for investing in young talent and opening doors for the very best young cricketers.”
Jonathan Agnew made 345 appearances for the foxes having taken 783 wickets and scored 2,402 runs across First-Class and One Day matches.
