Kibworth land league title

Torrential thunderstorms put paid to most of local cricket at the weekend – but there were still huge celebrations at Kibworth Cricket Club.

Following five abandoned games, Kibworth now hold a 92-point lead with three games to go and given the maximum haul is 30, they have been crowned champions of the Everards Premier League for a second season in succession.

Market Harborough had progressed to 73-2 from the 25.2 overs of play that were possible before the game was abandoned, Rob Taylor making 39 not out while Aadil Ali claimed 1-9 from three overs.

Kibworth will now be looking for an incredible ‘double double’ this weekend. Kibworth now take on Barrow Town in the Talent Cricket County Cup Final this Sunday at the Fischer County Ground (1pm start) having beaten Lutterworth in the showpiece game of 2015.

It promises to be an exciting day of action at the FCG with the final of the NatWest T20 Under 19s Competition taking place beforehand, at 9.30am, between Hinckley Rhinos and Soar Valley Strollers.

If Kibworth emerge victorious against an in-form Barrow Town side this Sunday afternoon, they will then have the incredible opportunity to have a crack at recording a back-to-back treble.

The club won the Everards League Cup Final in 2015 and are again in the main match in 2016, taking on Loughborough Town on Sunday, September 11 at Uppingham Town CC.

The most frustrated side on Saturday were Hinckley Town/CCA after they dismissed Syston Town for just 105 in 31 overs before the heavens opened. Seamer Sukhvir Singh had done the bulk of the damage with a five-wicket haul.

It meant that Hinckley were unable to get their chase underway and had to settle for ten points in their bid to escape the bottom two.

Bottom club Earl Shilton had also worked themselves into a good position, being 180-5 from 35 overs after Kyle Chamberlain’s 75 at Barkby United. Hasnain Ali (43) and Sharjeel Butt (41*) also chipped in while Rob Townsend claimed 4-16 for the hosts.

Leicestershire’s Ollie Freckingham scored 43 not out in Loughborough’s total of 120-5 after 36 overs at Barrow Town, for who Rob Sayer claimed 1-29 off eight overs.

To complete a day of washouts, fewer than 30 overs were played at Lutterworth and Rothley Park. Lutts progressed to 86-3 off 26 overs at home to Leicester Ivanhoe while Jigar Naik posted an unbeaten 39 as Sileby were at 145-3 from 27.1 overs at Rothley.
