Kimber rewarded with contract extension in Leicestershire

Big-hitting Louis Kimber earns a contract extension in Leicestershire following an outstanding debut season in professional cricket.

Having earned his first professional deal last season, Kimber’s natural power-hitting ability impressed Paul Nixon and his coaching staff in Leicestershire following a number of a game-changing displays.

None more so than his List A best posting of 85 in the Royal London Cup victory over Somerset at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

An over of 25 plus four extras off Marchant de Lange swung the tie into the Foxes’ favour with 11 overs remaining.

Kimber sent the South African for three sixes in the over, including one off a no-ball, and saw his maiden List A half-century in with a huge six “ the first of the three “ pulled away over square leg.

The 24-year-old finished the match with an outstanding strike-rate of 149.1 with his 85 coming from 57 balls, including five maximums.

This wasn’t his first match-winning contribution of the season, after his maiden T20 half-century for Leicestershire earned the victory away at Midlands rivals, Derbyshire Falcons.

Kimber recorded another performance flush with boundaries and maximums after posting a 28-ball 53 at a rate of 189.3 to help County post a competitive score of 174 for 8, in a match won by 42 runs.

After extending his stay in Leicestershire, Kimber said: “I absolutely loved my first year at Leicestershire.

“It was great to see the potential that this group of players has. Over the next couple of seasons I look forward to seeing how the squad develops and how I as an individual can progress and contribute to the success of the Club.”


Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, was delighted with Kimber’s performances in 2021, and spoke tying the middle-order batsman down to a longer deal: “We are really pleased that Louis [Kimber] has agreed to extend his contract with us.

“He has shown really good signs of what he is capable of which is great to see.”
