LCCC Honour Long-Standing Employees

Two long-standing members of the Running Foxes were honoured on Monday, December 6, 2021 for their outstanding length of service to Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

During the COVID-hit year of 2020, Facilities Manager Roger Sturgess reached the 25th year of service at the Club after starting in 1995.

Roger, a valued member of staff and an integral part of the operations team oversees the maintenance of the ground throughout the course of the year and is often the first one in and the last one out of the ground on any given day.

Whilst the post-season is often used as downtime across multiple departments, Roger and his team continue their hard work as they begin preparations for the upcoming season as we head into the festive period, managing jobs as high priority as maintaining all areas of the ground, to removing the past season’s advertising boards around the perimeter of the pitch.

For his length of service to Leicestershire, CEO Sean Jarvis presented Roger with a gift as well as an exclusive gold fox pin badge to celebrate his achievement.

On the presentation, Roger said: “I am honoured to not only have received this gift from the Club, but to also have been a part of the Running Foxes for the length of time I have.

“It is great to see this introduced into the Club as there are a lot of great people who have dedicated a lot of time and effort into making Leicestershire CCC what it is today.”

In addition to Roger’s presentation, Head Groundsman and the Club’s longest serving member of staff, Andy Ward was recognised for his 37-year long stay with Leicestershire.

Similarly to Roger, Andy received a gift and an exclusive gold fox pin badge for his incredible accomplishment.

Sean Jarvis commented on the example of incredible loyalty that Leicestershire CCC has received: “The loyalty and devotion that both Roger and Andy have shown the Club over the years really is something to be marveled.

“Without the likes of these people, Leicestershire CCC would not be what it is today.

“To be able to recognise and congratulate both members of staff today was an honour for myself, and I look forward to acknowledging and celebrating the next milestone.”
