LCCC hosted Leicestershire and Rutland Schools Indoor County Finals

After missing out on the competitions in 2021 due to covid, we were able to see a return of cricket competition in schools this year, with school teams taking part in 8-a-side, 8 over indoor games for a chance to be official county winners.

Leicestershire County Cricket Club hosted 4 county finals during through the week (28th February to 3rd March) having an Under 13s mixed competition, an Under 15s mixed competition, an Under 13s girls’ competition and an Under 15s girls’ competition, all taking place at Crown Hill Community College. Each school team that took part in the county finals, qualified as representatives of their respected areas of Leicestershire and Rutland, organized by their local Schools Games Organiser.

The first competition of the week was the Under 13s mixed county final, in which 7 teams attended. These finals saw lots of fantastic bowling and fielding efforts from all the teams that took part, eventually two teams progressed into a final. Loughborough Grammar School played Humphrey Perkins School, with the former winning the toss and putting Humphrey Perkins into bat. Humphrey Perkins finished on 76 for 5 after their 8 overs, who then after a couple of very tight overs restricted Loughborough Grammar School to 56 for 7, meaning that Humphrey Perkins School came out victorious.

Next up was the Under 15s mixed county final that offered up some hard hitting and incrediball splitting batting. After the 6 group games were completed, we were left with two pool winners, Rushey Mead Academy and Loughborough Grammar School. Loughborough Grammar won the toss and elected to bat, after a quick start scoring 15 off the first over, they finished on 93 for 6 after 8 overs. A very close chase saw Rushey Mead needing 4 runs from the last ball and they finished off with a 6 to claim the Under 15s Mixed trophy.

The Under 13s Girls Competition took place on Wednesday 3rd March and we were witness to some quality bowling that was on display all afternoon. The finals took place between Loughborough High School and Rushey Mead Academy. Loughborough High School won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 106 for 3 after their 8 overs. Rushey Mead started well in reply but fell short due to some tight and consistent bowling for the Loughborough High Bowlers, with Rushey Mead finishing on 87 for 5, resulting in a win for Loughborough High school, Leicestershire and Rutland’s new Under 13s girls county winners.

The week was rounded off by the Under 15s girls county finals where the top 3 teams in the county drew level on points after a last ball win between two of the 3 teams, so it was down to the runs scored throughout the competition to determine who the two finalists were, Crown Hills Community College scored a total of 244 runs and then there was just one point in it between Leicester Grammar School and Loughborough High School scoring 207 and 208 runs respectively. Crown Hills won the toss and elected to put Loughborough High into bat, a few big overs meant that Loughborough High finished on a massive 133 for 6 at the end of their 8 overs. Crown Hills came out strongly scoring 32 runs off the first 2 overs but were unable to reach the target, finishing on 109 all out. Loughborough High School won by 24 runs to become Under 15s girls county Winners.
