LCCC Women and Girls Honoured in End of Season Awards

Leicestershire County Cricket Club celebrated their Women’s and Girls contingent on Friday, November 26, 2021 to completely round off the cricket club’s 2021 campaign.

In a season where strides were made in the Men’s First XI and the LCCC Academy, the Women’s and Girls set up - headed up by Cricket Development Officer for Women and Girls, Mark Hudson “ went from strength to strength in a positive season across all age groups.

Ranging from Under 11’s all the way through to Under 18’s and into the Women, so many individual and team records were achieved and recognised on the night of celebration, such as Prisha Thanawala’s 104no versus Nottinghamshire U15s, D’Nica Roff with 80 versus Lincolnshire U15s, Flora Davies’ 100 versus Derbyshire & 97no versus Nottinghamshire U13s, Libby Haward averaging 46 with the bat for our U18s with a high score of 63 versus Nottinghamshire and D’Nica Roff with 20 wickets for the U18s with best figures of 5 for 7 versus Lincolnshire U18s in a T20 fixture.

The 2021 campaign was the first season that saw Lightning Cricket stars integrated into the Running Foxes’ squads, with Grace Ballinger, Abigail Freeborn and Nancy Harman appearing in the green of Leicestershire.

Not only was this invaluable for the growth of the Women’s game in England, but also for the development of the Women’s and Girls squads at the Uptonsteel County Ground who had the chance to play and train alongside the Lightning trio.

Women and Girls Development Officer, Mark Hudson, commented on the inclusion of the Lightning trio, he said: “It was great to have the quality and the experience of Grace [Ballinger], Abigail [Freeborn] and Nancy [Harman] throughout the 2021 season. Nancy’s runs & wickets helped shape the team’s performances.

“They helped the Women’s and Girls teams a lot during their time here and we are thankful for all the hard work they put into the Club. Fingers crossed we see them in the green of Leicestershire once again very soon.”

Head of Community, Mark Barber, commented on the inclusion of the Women’s and Girls set up at Leicestershire CCC over in recent years, he said: “To see the Women’s and Girls teams fully integrated into the set-up at the Uptonsteel County Ground is so great to see.

“We have all worked extremely hard “ as a coaching staff, and as players “ to get to where we are today, and the strides taken are evidenced by the summers performances and highlighted by the 2021 Awards Evening we have hosted tonight.

“The Women’s game continues to go from strength to strength, and we are excited here at Leicestershire to continue our growth. We are looking ahead to a very bright future.”

The night drew to a close and brought an end to what was a hugely successful year for Women’s and Girls cricket within Leicestershire, and we look forward to seeing what 2022 has in store.
