Ed Lee of Ratby Cricket Club was among the winners at the ECB's 2015 NatWest Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards (OSCAs).
The event, in its 13th year, was staged at Lord’s and hosted by BBC Radio’s Test Match Special commentator Jonathan Agnew. It brought together over 400 people from across the recreational game to celebrate achievements in volunteering roles in twelve different categories.
A host of current England cricketers including captains Eoin Morgan and Charlotte Edwards turned out in force to recognise the efforts of grassroots volunteers like Ed.
In 2009 he had the vision, drive and commitment to set up a junior programme starting with a group of twelve 8 and 9 year olds at Ratby CC. The club now has competitive junior teams from U10 to U15 with over 40 members. Ed has also secured funding for the club to train coaches each year.
Ed devised specific coaching programmes for each age group to cater for all abilities and has actively promoted the club’s coaching programme in local schools allowing children to try cricket often for the first time.
Paying tribute to the winners, Matt Dwyer, ECB’s Director of Participation and Growth, said: “All these winners play such a vital role in ensuring grassroots cricket across England and Wales continues to flourish.
“These fantastic awards are just one way to recognise their outstanding contribution to cricket and it was a great privilege to meet so many of the hard working volunteers at yesterday’s event.
