REPORT | Scores of 44 not out from Alex Wakely and 40 by Ben Curran helped Northamptonshire CCC to record a seven-wicket victory at the Fischer County Ground.
This visitors began the last day requiring a further 119 runs to beat Leicestershire CCC, who needed all ten wickets to emerge victorious.
It would be Northants who earned their fourth win of their Specsavers County Championship campaign and edge closer to promotion in the process.
Will Davis spearheaded the attack as he earned his fifth wicket of the fixture, finishing with Foxes best figures of five for 104.
It took an hour and 46 added runs from the Northamptonshire CCC batsmen before County made a breakthrough.
The attack consisted of both seam and spin as captain Paul Horton tried to break the visitors’ resistance and it finally came three balls into Alex Evans’ first over of the innings.
He delivered a slower ball which deceived Rob Newton (29) at the crease as the umpire obliged during the lbw appeal.
Soon after, Newton’s opening partner Curran (40) was joining him back in the pavilion after Ackermann caught an edge off Davis at second slip.
The dangerman of the first innings could not replicate his form that saw him post 132 as Keogh (17) drove at a delivery from Callum Parkinson and could only edge it through to Ackermann at slip, who caught his second of the day.
The time for the lunch interval came but the teams stayed out there with Northamptonshire looking to wrap to game up within their 30-minute extension.
Ten minutes into the extension, Wakely cut George Rhodes for his fifth four of the innings to bring up the 141 needed for victory as Northamptonshire ran out winners by seven wickets.
