Leicestershire CCC Girls Squad Overview

The Leicestershire County Cricket Club Women and Girls Teams have returned to training and more recently, competitive action with fixtures for the U13s, U15s and U17s.

Leicestershire CCC Women and Girls Development Officer, Heather Beattie has provided an update on how the Women and Girls teams have been getting back into cricket and what’s planned over the coming weeks and months.

The Women and Girls teams are back up and running with the U11s, U13s, U15s, and U17s all having returned to training at the beginning of August. It has been fantastic to see all of the age groups return to training. The girls have been fantastic in adapting to the new rules required and it’s great to have them all back together in their teams.

The first session back for each of the teams was quite informal, the girls haven’t seen their team mates in months [apart from our weekly Zoom quizzes] so it was about catching up with each other and talking about how everyone has dealt with lockdowns and COVID-19.

We then got into our cricket with 4 separate fielding stations to perform some drills, followed by some bowling action to gently ease them back into training and playing cricket again. We finished with a quick-fire game at the end.

The training programme for each team differs slightly as follows;

U11s – Barrow Town CC

Week 1: Fielding circuits, back to bowling and pairs cricket to finish

Week 2: Fielding circuits, nets, range hitting and scenario matches

U13s – Barrow Town CC

Week 1: Fielding circuits, back to bowling, nets and 12 over game to finish

Week 2: Fielding circuits, net practice of specific shots [pull, sweep and hitting over the top], range hitting and scenario matches

U15s – Based at Market Overton CC

Week 1: Fielding circuits, back to bowling and a game to finish

Week 2: Fielding circuits, nets, range hitting and scenario matches

U17s – Uppingham Town CC

Week 1: Fielding circuits, back to bowling and a game to finish

Week 2: Fielding circuits, net practice of specific shots [pull, sweep and hitting straight], bowling and scenario matches

The U15s recently faced Derbyshire away with the U13s playing against Northamptonshire. A scheduled fixture for the U17s has been abandoned due to the weather.

The teams next fixtures are as follows;

  • U17 – v Northamptonshire Away
  • U15 – v Northamptonshire Home

 I’d also like to Market Overton, Uppingham Town and Barrow Town Cricket Club for hosting the Women and Girls Teams Training.
