Leicestershire complete emphatic win

Leicestershire’s bowlers shared the wickets as the team completed an excellent 344-run first-class win against Cambridge MCCU in Andrew McDonald's first game as Head Coach.

Leicestershire declared on their overnight score of 339-4 to set Cambridge MCCU a massive 503 to win at Fenner's. The home side were bowled out for 158 during the afternoon session.

Atif Sheikh made an important breakthrough with the new ball as James Abbott (2) was caught by skipper Mark Cosgrove at slip, and five more wickets followed before lunch.

Tom Wells trapped Philip Hughes (19) leg before wicket before Ollie Freckingham had Andrew Wright (8) and Henry Ellison (2) caught at gully and slip by Angus Robson and Neil Pinner respectively.

The fifth and sixth wickets arrived courtesy of spin as Jigar Naik bagged the wicket of Joe Tetley (16), lbw, and Dan Redfern dismissed Adil Arif (17) in the same fashion.

Cambridge MCCU were 104-6 at the interval and Sheikh landed two wickets in two balls shortly after lunch. The left armer had Ben Wylie caught behind by Niall O’Brien before trapping Zain Shahzad lbw.

Some resistance followed from Alex Blofield and Alasdair Pollock before Naik had Pollock caught by Robson for 15.

Ruaru Crichard was then run out, leaving Blofield 30 not out as Leicestershire completed a superb victory. The next game is the first LV=CC match of the season against Glamorgan starting on Sunday (11am).
