Leicestershire confirm Yorkshire friendly

Leicestershire CCC has announced an additional pre-season friendly to the schedule as Yorkshire CCC will visit the Fischer County Ground for a two-day match starting on Monday.

The White Rose county was due to play a three-day game against Leeds-Bradford MCCU on Saturday but recent poor weather - including flurries of snow - in Leeds meant that the match had to be cancelled.

With Leicestershire CCC exploring fixture options for the early part of the week with the improving weather, and the Fischer County Ground available, the situation will work out well for both sides.

The Foxes completed a competitive two-day friendly against Nottinghamshire on Friday, a match in which Lewis Hill, Michael Carberry and Callum Parkinson all made half-centuries.

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Paul Nixon said: “It was good to get in two full days against Nottinghamshire, and Yorkshire will also provide us with another difficult test ahead of the season opener against Loughborough MCCU.

“The more quality outdoors preparation we can get at this stage of the season, the better. Our groundstaff have done a fine job allowing us to get out into the middle here as much as they have, and all of the players and coaches are appreciative of that.

“It will be great to welcome [Director of Cricket] Martyn Moxon. [Head Coach] Andrew Gale and the Yorkshire team here, and we’re all looking forward to the game.”

Leicestershire CCC has named a 13-man squad for the game including batsman Colin Ackermann, who recently flew in from South Africa.

Yorkshire CCC will bring a strong squad to the Fischer County Ground given that their Specsavers County Championship opener scheduled for Friday, April 13 - the same day as Leicestershire CCC's opening fixture against Loughborough MCCU.

“I would imagine the team that’s playing there [Leicester] will just about be the team for Essex," Gale told the Official Yorkshire CCC website. "There are a couple of places that are 50/50, but the team’s nearly nailed down."

Play started at 10.30am on the two days of the Nottinghamshire game, so the Yorkshire game could follow suit if the weather allows.

Leicestershire (from 13): Carberry (capt), Horton, Dexter, Ackermann, Hill, Eckersley, Javid, Chappell, Raine, Parkinson, Klein, Taylor, Griffiths.
