Leicestershire sign Agathangelou

Leicestershire CCC is pleased to confirm the signing of Andrea Agathangelou on a contract until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old batsman, who has played the majority of his first-class career for Lancashire and North West in South Africa, recently joined the club on trial.

He made a terrific 163 not out for the Second XI in the two-day friendly against Afghanistan at Wormsley this week and has signed in time to be part of the 13-man squad for the trip to Essex.

Agathangelou has scored 2,549 runs in 47 first-class matches at an average of 32.26, including thirteen half-centuries and five hundreds. His highest score in the first-class arena is 158.

The batsman, who was born in South Africa and has a Cypriot father, has also made 679 List A runs at 33.95 with five fifties and has played in three T20 games in his career to date.

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Andrew McDonald said: "We'd like to welcome Andrea on board, he is a good individual who caught our eye in the Second XI this week with an outstanding performance.

"Andrea has plenty of first-class experience in this country having been at Lancashire for a number of years and will be a part of our squad for the trip to Essex this weekend."
