Leicestershire CCC Women and Girls celebrated a record-breaking season across the age groups with their annual end of season awards night yesterday evening (Tuesday, 6 December).
Prisha Thanawala was presented with the night’s most coveted honour, Player of the Year, after an impressive campaign across the Under 15s, 18s, and Women’s sides, headlined by her 206 not out in August’s One Day Cup win over Lincolnshire, the Under 15’s highest ever individual score.
Katie Gunn (formerly Winterton) scooped Women’s Batter of the Year after finishing as top run-scorer for the side, while she also garnered special recognition from the Club for becoming just the second female player to reach 100 appearances for Leicestershire, and the first to receive her prestigious ‘Gold Fox’ cap.
Leading wicket-taker Aimee Colquhoun won Women’s Bowler of the Year, with vice-captain Una Paramjothy and young bowler D’Nica Roff taking home Players’ Player and Coaches’ Player respectively for Stephen Franklin’s side.
After an impressive season for the Under 18s, who won 10 of their 16 matches, Flora Davies was chosen as Coaches’ Player of the Year, with Fielder of the Year given to all-rounder Lucy Weston for her unrelenting efforts in the dirt.
With 277 runs at average of 25.18, Sophie Bennett claimed Batter of the Year, while captain Aimee Colquhoun also won U18s Bowler of the Year after a 25-wicket return during 2022.
After her unbeaten double hundred against Lincolnshire for the U15s and another unbeaten ton against the same opposition for the U18s, it was no surprise to see Prisha Thanawala claim Batter of the Year for Andy Hibberd’s Under 15s.
Flora Davies was also a double award winner, earning Fielder of the Year, while Sophie Underwood and Eleanor Ashcroft picked up Bowler of the Year and Coaches’ Player respectively.
At Under 13s level, Hannah Toyne was selected as Batter of the Year, Erin Farrow as Bowler of the Year, and Emily Tyler as Fielder of the Year. Captain Eliza Kershaw was chosen as Coaches’ Player by Head Coach, Angus Youles.
Under 11 top run-scorer Zara Esat claimed Batter of the Year for Dave Allen’s side, while Georgie Mee, Imogen Major and Isla Read won Bowler, Fielder, and Coaches’ Player of the Year respectively.
