Lightning have had a tough start to the Charlotte Edwards
Cup having lost both fixtures against Southern Vipers and South-East Stars
which has left them sitting bottom of the table. Central Sparks have
experienced a similar start having lost both of their games against the same
opponents. The only thing separating the two teams is their respective Net Run
Rates. In the Lightning squad there are a few names that will be vital in
Lightning’s quest for their first win in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
Kirstie Gordon:
Kirstie Gordon is certainly one to watch when Central Sparks
make the journey to the Uptonsteel County Ground on Saturday. Across both
competitions Gordon has already taken 10 wickets with her best figures being
4-23 against North-West Thunder in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint trophy. Drawing on
her international experience Kirstie offers a wealth of knowledge and game
management skills to the Lightning squad. In the previous meeting last season
Gordon took two wickets against Sparks and will look to do the same this
weekend.
Kathryn Bryce:
Lightning’s captain Kathryn Bryce brings both batting and
bowling expertise to the Lightning Squad. Bryce recently became the first
Scottish cricketer to break into the ICC top 10 T20 rankings, on the back of scoring
96 runs across four games against Ireland. Kathryn’s domestic season has seen
mixed performances with both bat and ball, the best batting performance came
against North-West Thunder where she scored a fine 76 with nine fours and one
six. Bryce took two wickets last weekend in the loss against Southern Vipers
but will be looking to contribute with both bat and ball against Sparks this
weekend.
Abbey Freeborn:
A Leicestershire County player herself, Abbey provides an
explosive batting option for Lightning. After returning from injury early in
the season Abbey has given Lightning some solidity in their batting ranks.
Freeborn scored 30 against South-East Stars in the first round of the Charlotte
Edwards Cup finding the boundary three times. Another standout performance for
Freeborn was against Eastern Sunrisers where she added 44 to Lightning’s total.
In the field Freeborn has also taken some important catches to help Lightning’s
campaign in both the Rachael Heyhoe Flint trophy and the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
Hopefully all three players will be in action for Lightning this weekend before they all travel to their respective teams for the first season of The Hundred. Tickets are still available HERE.
