Leicestershire County Cricket Club Womens and U17s star has been selected for the Loughborough Lightning Academy, home to the best young cricket players in the East Midlands.
Lucy Weston is among the 15 best young players in the region to be picked for the Loughborough Lightning Academy. The Lightning Academy sits underneath the Loughborough Lightning Senior Squad, which includes ex-Leicestershire pathway players Lucy Higham, and sisters; Kathryn and Sarah Bryce.
The Lightning Academy is also headed up by former-Leicestershire man, Rob Taylor.
The Loughborough Lightning Academy is one of eight academies in the country who all underpin the eight new Regional Sides, who compete in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy. Throughout the summer, the Loughborough Lightning Academy will play one off fixtures against the other Regional Academies, before playing in a week-long tournament with all academies involved.
Stephen Franklin, the Indoor Centre Programmes Officer at the Uptonsteel County Ground has had the privilege of watching Lucy's journey progress during her time at Leicestershire CCC. He said: "Everyone at Leicestershire is delighted to hear that Lucy has been successful with a place on the Lightning Academy.
"It is testament to the hard work and dedication she has shown over the last six seasons, and despite suffering a serious injury has come back stronger and deserves this opportunity.
"Lucy has consistently put in eye-catching performances with both bat and ball and I can not wait to see her progress over the next few years.”
Lucy has been with Leicestershire since the age of 10 and represented the Women when she was 14 years old, and after receiving the news said: "I am really grateful for the coaches at Leicestershire for supporting and encouraging me in achieving the next stage of my cricketing dream.”
