Match Preview v Nottinghamshire

Leicestershire CCC end their 2020 home Bob Willis Trophy campaign with the visit of Nottinghamshire to the Fischer County Ground on Saturday 22 August.

The Running Foxes head into the fixture off the back of a frustrating weather-affected draw against Durham, as the rain ultimately ran out the victor as the Foxes looked poised to earn their second win of the season.

Similarly, Nottinghamshire come into the fixture off the back of a draw, determined by the weather, after the rain prematurely ending the tie in which Nottinghamshire enforced Lancashire to follow-on.

Watch the Foxes live through our online streaming service

As confirmed by Leicestershire County Cricket Club, the Bob Willis Trophy fixtures played at The Fischer County Ground will be available to watch via a live stream.

The stream can be accessed via the Leicestershire CCC website and will be live each morning of the 4-day matches.

Nottinghamshire - ones to watch

Ben Slater – An opening batsman that the Foxes know all to well following his loan spell with Leicestershire earlier this year. He has posted back-to-back centuries against Lancashire, one for Leicestershire and one for Nottinghamshire, and is the in-form batsman heading into the tie.

Steven Mullaney – A batting allrounder that can stamp his authority on a fixture with either bat or ball. A reliable and versatile teammate, the captain can be the man that Nottinghamshire lean on in their toughest moments.

Tom Moores – A wicketkeeper batsman that can turn the tide of a game from either side of the stumps. With a recent 106 under his belt batting at number seven, he ensures that Nottinghamshire’s tail extends as long as it can.

Last Time We Met

The last time that Leicestershire met Nottinghamshire was at the Fischer County Ground in the 2019 Vitality Blast Competition.

Leicestershire had won the previous meeting at Trent Bridge after rain dictated that only 11 overs were to be played, with Arron Lilley leading the Foxes charge.

However, Notts Outlaws exacted their revenge in the second meeting in the Blast as they left Leicestershire with a seven-wicket victory.

The Foxes won the toss and captain Colin Ackermann elected to bat.

Harry Swindells, now opening the batting alongside Mark Cosgrove, was finding his form at the top of the white ball batting order after impressing with a 46 ball 61.

However, the youngster had already lasted two partnerships before the powerplay was over and was now in the middle alongside Ackermann, forming a crucial third wicket partnership.

The Foxes’ third wicket fell for 118 after 14.4 overs as the foundations were set for the remaining batting order to push on and post a competitive score.

The Foxes finished with 161 for eight.

Leicestershire got off to a good start in the Outlaw’s innings after dismissing Joe Clarke for nine leaving Notts on 23 for one.

Though, Alex Hales stepped to the fore demonstrating his international skill set, eventually finishing with a 39 ball 60. Alongside Ben Duckett, this partnership saw the momentum swing the visitors’ way with both batsmen falling with Notts on 119.

The duo of Tom Moores and captain Dan Christian then saw Notts over the line with seven balls and seven wickets remaining.

Last Time We Met in County Championship

The last time the two teams met in County Championship was all the way back in 2017, when Nottinghamshire earned promotion to Division One after a second placed finish in the competition.

Only three days of the fixture at Trent Bridge were needed, as Nottinghamshire ran out convincing winners thanks to an incredible Samit Patel innings score of 247 coming from just 305 balls.

Notts won by an innings and 280 runs after Leicestershire failed to reach the 548 for 9d target set by the home side, despite them enforcing the follow-on.

Leicestershire failed to post a score higher than 41 from both innings as the Notts attack claimed all 20 wickets.

James Pattison was the pick of the bowlers from the fixture, finishing with figures of 8 for 71 with Luke Fletcher, Jake Ball and Steven Mullaney claiming the remaining wickets.

Leicestershire Squad

Paul Nixon has named a 14-man squad for the visit of Nottinghamshire.

Leicestershire-loanee James Weighell is part of the squad and will be looking to make his debut for the Foxes after missing out last time against parent club, Durham.

Sam Bates has earned a call up to the first team after impressing earlier in the week during a T20 Practice match against Northamptonshire – his call up comes after signing his first professional contract for the club.

Rishi Patel links up with his new teammates after signing on loan for the remainder of the Bob Willis Trophy campaign from Division One champions, Essex. He will look to bolster the batting line-up.

Leicestershire from 14: Colin Ackermann (c), Hassan Azad, Sam Bates, Harry Dearden, Alex Evans, Sam Evans, Gavin Griffiths, Arron Lilley, Ben Mike, Rishi Patel, George Rhodes, Harry Swindells (wk), Tom Taylor, James Weighell.
