McDonald and McKay play for Thunder

Leicestershire Elite Performance Director Andrew McDonald and overseas player Clint McKay have been busy playing for Sydney Thunder in the KFC Big Bash over the festive period. Here is the round-up from their latest two matches:

Round Six

McDonald and McKay both played for Sydney Thunder but the side suffered a third consecutive defeat in the KFC Big Bash against Perth Scorchers.

McKay (4-1-20-1) bowled a wicket maiden as the Scorchers slipped to 1-2 after just two overs of their innings. Although McDonald (2-0-21-1) picked up the key wicket of Shaun Marsh (28) in his first appearance of the tournament this season, a stand of 105 between Cameron Bancroft (72) and Ashton Agar (68) saw the visitors up to 175-5.

The Scorchers' bowlers kept the shackles on throughout the innings. Jason Behrendorff (4-0-26-3) claimed two important wickets with the new ball and Brad Hogg (4-0-25-2) and Andrew Tye (4-0-22-3) carried on his good work.

All-rounder Andre Russell hit five sixes and top-scored with 42 for the Thunder but Behrendorff returned to take his wicket. McDonald (7 from 6 balls) and McKay (14 off 11 balls) scored at more than a run a ball but the Scorchers completed a 30-run success.

Round Seven

McKay took the wicket of Chris Gayle in the Thunder's latest game but it was not enough to prevent Melbourne Renegades claiming a five-wicket victory.

The Thunder put 173-5 on the board thanks to aggressive half-centuries from Usman Khawaja and Shane Watson and although McKay claimed 1-29 off four overs, the visitors won in the last over.

Cameron White (61 off 46 balls) and Dwayne Bravo (47 from 23 balls) were the star batsmen for the Renegades at the Sydney Showground Stadium.

The result was important for the Renegades as it moved them above the Thunder into fourth place in the table. Everything is delicately poised ahead of the Thunder's mouthwatering final group game - the Sydney derby - at the SCG on Saturday.
