McDonald: "Let's build on Derbyshire win"

Andrew McDonald is keen for his players to take the momentum of their LV=County Championship win against Derbyshire into the final two Royal London One Day Cup matches against Worcestershire and Somerset.

Although the Foxes cannot make it through to the next round, the games at New Road (Monday, 10.30am start) and Grace Road (Tuesday, 10.30am start) are still important to the Head Coach.

McDonald wants to end the 50-over campaign on a high to ensure that the club receives another boost ahead of the LV=CC game at Northamptonshire at the end of the week.

He said: “We can't make it through to the next round so there will be some changes, and guys will get some opportunities to show what they can do. I'm excited to see what some of the younger guys can do and it's a great chance for them to show their skills.

"We have got to focus on the Championship and get some more performances and results because we want to finish as high as we can in the table. We want to keep piling wins on the board because that's what it's all about.

"But that doesn't meant we don't want to end the Royal London One Day Cup with good performances and results. Cricket is about momentum and we want to build on the Derbyshire win as we head to Northants later in the week for another LV=CC game.”

McDonald said the players enjoyed the victory at Grace Road earlier this week but then quickly put that behind them as they look to the rest of the season.

"We celebrated the win against Derbyshire but it's all about moving on, looking to the next game and continuing to build for the future. We need to keep progressing and moving forwards," he said.

There will be a number of changes to the Foxes squad from the last game against Durham. Club Captain Mark Cosgrove is not part of the squad due to performance in the Royal London One Day Cup this season. Ned Eckersley will captain the side for the first time in the RLODC.

Seamer Ollie Freckingham joins James Sykes on the sidelines after sustaining a broken finger during the Durham match. Clint McKay returns as part of a 12-man squad, and Dan Redfern and Zak Chappell are in contention to make their first List A appearances of the season at New Road.

SQUAD | Eckersley (capt), Agathangelou, Ali, Chappell, Hill, McKay, O’Brien (w/k), Redfern, Robson, Sayer, Sheikh, Taylor.
