McDonald ready for Cambridge challenge

Head Coach Andrew McDonald is looking forward to launching the new era for Leicestershire CCC in a first-class three-day game at Cambridge MCCU tomorrow (11am start).

McDonald was pleased with his first week at Grace Road and is now relishing the chance to see the players in a competitive game at Fenner’s.

He said: “We had a good workout at Loughborough University and the intra-squad game also went well last week, so this is another good opportunity for the players ahead of Glamorgan on Sunday.

“Everything to do with the winter programme has been geared up so that we ready to face Glamorgan, and this will be another important test. We have played Leeds-Bradford, Oxford and Loughborough in pre-season so we know what to expect from Cambridge.”

Mark Cosgrove is part of a 13-man squad travelling to Cambridge and McDonald is glad to be able to call on the experience of his former teammate at South Australia and Sydney Thunder this season.

He said: “I feel that I have settled in quickly and it’s the same with Mark Cosgrove. Mark is a very good player and will add considerably to the leadership group here. It’s been good to have him around and getting to know the lads.

“Clint McKay will arrive soon as our overseas player and we are pleased to have Kevin O’Brien and Grant Elliott on board for T20. They will provide good experience along with Mark, Niall O’Brien and Charlie Shreck and we have a lot of exciting young players too.”
