Round One
Leicestershire CCC seamer Clint McKay made his Sydney Thunder debut in their KFC Big Bash derby win against Sydney Sixers at the Showground Stadium.
Opener Mike Hussey batted through to make 80 not out from 59 balls, including five fours and four maximums, as Thunder posted a competitive 158-4 from their allocation.
All-rounders Andre Russell and Jacques Kallis then each claimed 3-13 for Thunder while McKay finished with excellent figures of 2-11 from 2.5 overs as they completed a 36-run victory.
It was the first time that the Thunder have triumphed against the Sixers in a competition which is now into its fifth campaign. Leicestershire CCC Elite Performance Director Andrew McDonald is also part of the Thunder squad this season.
Round Two
McKay went on to play an important role with bat and ball as the Thunder made it two wins from two in thrilling style against Melbourne Stars.
Usman Khawaja hit a brilliant unbeaten 109 from 70 balls and McKay hit the final ball of the innings for six as Thunder put 178-6 on the board.
A stunning innings by Kevin Pietersen, who hit five fours and six maximums in posting 70 off just 42 deliveries, put the Stars in a good position at the MCG.
However McKay (3-0-27-1) took the prize wicket of the former England international in the penultimate over as the hosts ended agonisingly short on 177-5.
