Leicestershire seamer Clint McKay said that confidence remains high but the team know that they need to keep learning and improving following the LV=CC setback to Surrey.
County found themselves in strong positions in the early stages of both first innings at Grace Road but a Surrey side inspired by young all-rounder Tom Curran wrestled back the initiative.
McKay said: “The confidence we took from the win against Essex doesn’t dissipate overnight, we know when we put four days of cricket together and follow the game plan we will win the game.
“It’s extremely disappointing after the up of beating Essex last week to come down as we did, especially after a great first day and a bit, when we’d bowled them out for 261 and were 100-0.
“We knew the wicket would seam sometimes, and the bounce might be a bit variable, but we didn’t play the conditions well enough, especially with the bat, although we were good enough to take 20 wickets again, which is pleasing.”
The team took a lot from the victory at Chelmsford but McKay said that everybody has moved on from that game and the focus is firmly on being consistent for the rest of the summer.
“We’ve had stages this year where we have batted and bowled really well but we need to put four days of cricket together consistently, not just an hour or two at a time,” he said.
“It’s something we’ll look back and reflect on. We showed that we can do it at Essex but there’s a lot of areas that we’ll keep looking to improve.”
“Last week was last week - we’re not worrying about the past, we’re building for the future. One win for the season is not what we’re after, we’re looking to put more wins on the board and to have a successful season. We’ll fight back against Lancashire on Sunday.”
