McKay: "We're determined to get that first win"

Clint McKay can feel the positivity and determination in the Leicestershire camp as the players look to record their first LV=CC win of the season against Northamptonshire on Sunday.

County had a competitive game against Glamorgan in the opening fixture and are now looking to go one better against their East Midlands rivals.

“Every time you walk out you’re looking to win the game of cricket and that’s what we’ll be looking to do against Northamptonshire,” said McKay.

“Unfortunately we weren’t quite able to do that in the first game against Glamorgan but the report I heard was that the boys played beautifully and weren’t too far away, we just missed a couple of key moments in the game.

“It wasn’t to be but we got a good draw and there is a positive feel to the place. We’ll all be walking out on Sunday determined to get that first win.

“It’s been a beautiful week weather-wise, I’ve had a good week of training, and I’m really looking forward to getting out there on Sunday.”

McKay will bring an extra edge to the attack and his experience will also help to guide the battery of young seamers at the club.

He said: “Any senior guy coming into a younger group has to take responsibility in helping the younger guys out and I’m looking forward to that challenge.

“There are some great young kids coming through and the aim is to make them become better players for Leicestershire County Cricket Club and hopefully follow their dreams of one day playing for England. I’m looking forward to that role and there are some exciting times ahead.”

McKay is in the 13 for the game with Rob Taylor returning from a back injury to take his place in the squad alongside the Australia seamer. Atif Sheikh misses out through the injury sustained in the Glamorgan game.

Former Leicestershire captain Josh Cobb makes his first return to Grace Road with Northants while Kyle Coetzer and Steven Crook are also pushing for starts after impressing in the Second XI this week.
