Mulder Earns South Africa Test Recall

Leicestershire CCC all-rounder Wiaan Mulder has been called up to South Africa’s Test squad ahead of their series decider against England at The Oval next month (8 Sept).

The 24-year-old will replace batsman Rassie van der Dussen, who fractured his left index finger during the Proteas’ innings and 85-run defeat at Old Trafford last week.

Involvement for Mulder in the third and final Test would see him miss the Running Foxes’ next two LV= Insurance County Championship fixtures against Nottinghamshire (5 Sept) and Durham (12 Sept).

The South African overseas star has been in imperious form of late, sitting as the third-highest run scorer in the Royal London Cup with 533 runs at an average of 88.83, including five fifties and one century from nine innings, while claiming 14 wickets at 28.92 with the ball.

Mulder’s white-ball form backs up an impressive stint in the County Championship for the Running Foxes, where he tops the Club’s batting charts with 689 runs to his name at a touch under fifty, alongside taking 14 wickets.

The all-rounder helped create history for Leicestershire in the competition last month, hitting his career-best score of 235 not out during Leicestershire’s highest ever total of 756 for four against Sussex at Hove.

A Test recall for Mulder will give him the chance to add to his total of ten caps in the format for the Proteas.
