Mulder Wins Six at End of Season Awards

Wiaan Mulder swept up at the Club’s annual End of Season Awards dinner on Friday night, earning six of the 11 trophies on offer to him.

They included Fans’ Player of the Year, as voted for by the Foxes faithful, as well as Coaches’ Player of the Year and the showpiece prize, Cricketer of the Year.

In his first year as a Fox, the South African quickly won the affection of his teammates and his value to the team increased game-on-game with several herculean efforts.

With the bat, he recorded his highest first-class score of 235 not out at Hove in July, finishing with an average just shy of 50 in the County Championship, while his outstanding performances in the One Day Cup saw him register five fifties and one hundred from nine innings at an average of above 88.

Such mastery earned him the Livingston Cup “ awarded to the Batter of the Year.

Altogether, Mulder scored 1,347 runs and claimed 33 wickets, as he cemented himself as an integral component of the Foxes side in all three formats, winning both County Championship Player of the Year and One Day Player of the Year for his work.

With 50 wickets across the County Championship and Vitality Blast, red-ball skipper Callum Parkinson won the illustrious Frank S Smith Cup, presented to the Bowler of the Year, while for his unrelenting efforts to save runs in the field, Sam Evans won the Rodger Goadby Trophy for Fielder of the Year.

On the subject of 50 wickets, after becoming the fastest Fox to reach the tally in this summer’s Vitality Blast, Naveen received the T20 Player of the Year Trophy, while Colin Ackermann won the John Josephs Cup, awarded for the Best Individual Performance, after his sensational 277 not out at Hove during a record-breaking innings for the Club in July.

Rehan Ahmed won Young Player of the Year after a series of precocious performances in the Foxes’ First Team. The 18-year-old took a wicket with his maiden delivery in T20 cricket, finishing with 19 wickets at an average of 20, before recording his maiden five-fer and swashbuckling maiden century in last week’s season finale against Derbyshire.

The night also marked the first time Leicestershire Women received their awards alongside the Men’s First Team. Club Captain Katie Winterton won Batter of the Year after top-scoring across the formats, while, on behalf of the team, she also accepted the T20 trophy the side won on Finals Day in their maiden appearance at Uptonsteel County Ground May.

With 18 wickets at an impressive average of just 14.44, including a season-best of three for eight against Suffolk in May, Aimee Colquhoun won Bowler of the Year, while second-leading wicket taker, D’Nnica Roff, was presented with Coaches’ Player of the Year by Head Coach Stephen Franklin.

Vice-captain Una Paramjothy, an ever-present in the side, made contributions in all three disciplines, and was voted for by her peers as the worthy recipient of Players’ Player of the Year.

Mulder, whose wedding back in South Africa fell on the same evening, along with Ackermann and Naveen, who are both overseas preparing for this month's T20 World Cup, saw their respective awards accepted by teammates on their behalf.
