Leicestershire CCC has announced that experienced wicket-keeper Niall O’Brien will be leaving the club with immediate effect.
The 35-year-old has been a consistent performer in his four years at Leicestershire CCC, scoring 2,816 first-class runs at an average of 34.76. O’Brien has also taken 152 catches and 11 stumpings in 51 appearances in red ball cricket for the club.
The Ireland international recorded 890 List A runs for the Foxes with a best of 105 not out and made more than 500 runs in NatWest T20 Blast.
O’Brien’s contract expires at the end of the 2016 season but both parties feel that now is the right time for him to leave to pursue other opportunities.
Leicestershire CCC Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “We’d like to thank Niall for his loyal service over the last four years, he has been an important part of the changing room at Leicestershire CCC.
“His contribution as a batsman, wicket-keeper and as a senior professional has been excellent and we wish him all the very best for the future.”
O’Brien said: “The last four years have been challenging and fun. I’m now looking forward to pursuing a new opportunity and am as hungry as ever to contribute. I wish Leicestershire all the very best in the years ahead.”
