Notts Outlaws Match Preview - 21/6/2022

When we last met:

The two teams faced each other several weeks ago in the Vitality Blast at the UptonSteel County Ground, with our opposition emerging as five-wicket winners.

After winning the toss, skipper Colin Ackermann opted to bat but a disastrous start saw the Running Foxes 44-4 after 45 balls.  A 43 run stand between Wiaan Mulder (32, 28b) and Rishi Patel (28, 29b) gave Leicestershire supporters hope of posting at least a competitive total but the last five wickets fell for just 17 runs to leave us 123 all out.

In reply, a brutal start from Joe Clarke, Alex Hales and Ben Duckett saw Nottinghamshire get a flier in the Powerplay, and while we managed to slow down the scoring rate, our local rivals finished the match with 40 balls to spare.

Head to Head:

Wiaan Mulder v Dan Christian:

Wiaan Mulder has had an immediate impact in the Leicestershire T20 team since his debut against Notts in the reverse fixture, clubbing 54 (33b) and taking 2-16 in his man of the match display against Durham.  So far this season, Mulder is striking at 146 with the bat and with the ball, costing just 7.28 runs per over - very impressive numbers from the South Africa all-rounder.

Nottinghamshire also boast a pace bowling all-rounder in their squad, with Dan Christian being a long-term overseas player for them.  The Australian has been extremely successful in recent years for the opposition, and the 39 year old is again showing value with the bat, hitting 178 runs at a strike rate of 137 so far this season.  With the ball this season, however, Christian has struggled, with his overs costing in excess of 12 runs per over so far.

With both teams having potential match-winners as overseas all-rounders, will it be the youth of Mulder or the experience of Christian which emerges victorious on Tuesday night at Trent Bridge?

Squad: Ackermann *, Ahmed, Davis, Griffiths, Hill, Lilley, Mike, Mulder, Naveen, Parkinson, Patel, Swindells +, Welch.
