Captain Mark Cosgrove praised Leicestershire County Cricket Club members and supporters on a hugely successful Family Open Day.
Upwards of 1,500 people were at Grace Road - the biggest crowd on record for the first day of the season - as Leicestershire took to the field against Cosgrove's former county Glamorgan.
“The crowd was fantastic and it was great to see so many people at Grace Road supporting the club,” he said. "Thanks to everybody who came down today and hopefully people will come back soon."
There were fun activities for the whole family including the brand new Red Monkey Play Area, which went down a treat with our young supporters.
Charlie Fox and Junior Members enjoyed a fun coaching session in the Mike Turner Indoor Centre before play started while the club also ran a treasure hunt.
There was an arts and crafts stall, a bouncy castle and face painting for children at the Bennett End of the ground, and Charlie Fox was on hand to meet everybody.
The Charles Palmer Restaurant was fully booked and the Friends of Grace Road enjoyed a lot of custom - both with tea, coffee and homemade cakes and with the clearance sale, which will also run today and Tuesday.
There was lots of positive feedback on social media, including these tweets:
Mark Masters tweeted: “The lad was delighted to meet Charlie Fox earlier, had a great time.”
Chris Conway tweeted: “Very well done to @leicsccc on a brilliant family fun day well worth it & things looking bright for the #foxes.”
Scott Moore tweeted: “At free family day well done great effort and fresh beginning on the field.”
Thanks to everybody who came to Open Day. We would be delighted if you would consider coming to games in the future or consider being a Member at Leicestershire County Cricket Club.
