Outlaws v Foxes Preview

Leicestershire Foxes have no time to dwell on last night’s defeat to Durham Cricket given the Vitality Blast games keep coming thick and fast.

The Foxes are back in action in the East Midlands Derby against Notts Outlaws at Trent Bridge today (2.30pm start), a ground where the team has enjoyed some memorable occasions in the past.

Head Coach Paul Nixon said: “We had a good game against them last year, and we have done well there before, which we will take confidence from. We are looking forward to a packed crowd and a great day.

“Similar to the Fischer County Ground, there will be a small boundary at one end, and it will be as belting a pitch to that we have been playing on.”

On the theme of crowds, the attendance figures for the Yorkshire Vikings and Durham Cricket fixtures at the FCG came in around the 3,000 mark.

The support has not gone unnoticed by the Head Coach. “I think that it is a result of the World Cup success,” he said.

“Families have been watching cricket and kids have been watching cricket and that is exactly what we want.

“We appreciate everybody’s support and are determined to put in some good performances. We want to get more people down to the Fischer County Ground to support their local club.”

Foxes batsman Mark Cosgrove looked in good form in last night’s defeat to Durham Cricket, but ultimately the Foxes total of 158 was not enough.

“We said that 200 was a par score here so it was another disappointment,” Cosgrove said. “It was good to see Colin Ackermann get a fifty so that’s a positive sign.

“Neil Dexter suffering an injury when he did cost us a bit of momentum but we should still have got a few more with the bat, and then we didn’t bowl well enough.

“We need to improve all round. Even though we got 200 the other night against Yorkshire we still need to be better and we are leaking too many big overs with the ball.

“We are a young team, but we need to learn, and we need to learn quickly.”

Dexter is ruled out of the game against the Outlaws, so young batsman Harry Swindells comes into contention alongside Will Davis and Gavin Griffiths.

The Outlaws’ squad includes former Fox Harry Gurney, who took career-best figures of five for 30 in their victory against Derbyshire Falcons last night.

Leicestershire Foxes (from 13): Ackermann (capt), Aadil, Cosgrove, Davis, Dearden, Hill (wk), Griffiths, Klein, Lilley, Mike, Parkinson, Swindells, Wright.
