Prolific Cosgrove extends contract with Foxes

Leicestershire CCC is delighted to announce that prolific batsman Mark Cosgrove has extended his contract by a further season.
The 34-year-old has been outstanding in all competitions since making his Foxes debut in 2015; he is closing in on 6,000 runs for the club. Cosgrove becomes the second high-class batsman to commit his future to the club until at least the end of the 2020 season alongside Colin Ackermann.
Cosgrove reached 1,000 first-class runs in each of his first three seasons at the club. His overall tally currently stands at 3,923 at an impressive average of 43.59, including 11 centuries with a best score of 188 at Derbyshire CCC. Cosgrove also passed 14,000 first-class career runs during the first half of the 2018 campaign.
The left-hander was the club’s leading run-scorer in the Royal London One-Day Cup in 2018, taking his overall Foxes total in List A to 842 runs at 36.60.
Cosgrove is one of only five Leicestershire Foxes batsmen to reach the 1,000-run mark in T20, following in the footsteps of Head Coach Paul Nixon, HD Ackermann, Josh Cobb and Darren Maddy. His 1,109 runs have been scored at an average of 29.18.
He said: “I’ve loved my time with the Foxes and it was an easy decision to extend my contract here. We are making good progress under Nico [Paul Nixon] and the coaching staff, and it’s an exciting time for the club.”
Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Paul Nixon said: “Cozzie [Mark Cosgrove] has been a talisman for the club, and we’re delighted that he and Ackers [Colin Ackermann] will continue to play key roles here.
“Cozzie’s run-scoring and overall record speaks for itself and he also has a huge influence in the dressing room with his insights on batting, and the game of cricket in general. It’s great that he has committed his future to the club.”
