Proud of our city

Leicestershire County Cricket Club would like to congratulate Leicester City on the magnificent achievement of winning the Barclays Premier League.

We have been following the Foxes’ progress, hearing the noise from the King Power Stadium when the goals have gone in, and listening to supporters’ stories when they have come to the Fischer County Ground, Grace Road.

To see the celebrations through Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has been amazing and we’re proud to be part of the Sporting Capital.

Congratulations also to Leicester Riders on winning the BBL and subsequently making the play-off final, to Leicester Tigers for reaching the Arriva Premiership play-offs for a 12th successive year and also getting to the Champions Cup semi-final, and to snooker star Mark Selby for becoming World Champion yesterday.

Leicestershire CCC Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “It was great to see the Foxes win the league and Leicester City has inspired us to believe that anything is possible.

“It shows what can be achieved when a group of people come together to positive effect under a great man-manager. Look where team spirit gets you.

“It’s a fantastic time for sport in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and we are determined to keep our own good start to the season going. Congratulations to everyone in Leicester who is playing their part in this wonderful story.”

Club Captain Mark Cosgrove added: “Congratulations to Leicester City on winning the Premier League, it’s been fantastic watching the journey and hopefully our boys can do the same this year.”

* Leicestershire CCC has a big summer of action ahead, including the first NatWest T20 Blast game under floodlights at the FCG on Friday, May 20th (6.30pm start).
