Rain hits Everards programme

There was very little cricket as rain decimated the Everards Leicestershire and Rutland Premier League at the weekend.

Ollie Pickering (81) starred in the game that saw the most overs bowled at Kibworth. Visitors Lutterworth posted 182-6 from 44.2 overs with James Sykes chipping in with 22. Russell Spiers took 3-23 from nine overs for Kibworth as both sides claimed eight points.

Matches at Barrow Town and Syston Town, where Barkby United and Enderby were the respective visitors, were abandoned without a ball bowled, while there were only nine balls bowled at Loughborough, who were 14-1 against Leicester Ivanhoe. All of those sides collected five points apiece.

Kegworth were in a spot of bother when weather intervened in their game against Sileby Town. The home side were at 73-9 before the match was abandoned, Jigar Naik (3-6) and Matt Ellis (3-14) doing the bulk of the damage. But Sileby had to settle for nine points with the hosts claiming five.

Market Harborough progressed to 175-4 in the 35th over before the game was called off at Rothley Park. Tom Leonard (65) and Joe Kendall (58) shared an opening stand of 123 as Harborough claimed eight points to Rothley’s five.

There is a much better forecast for this weekend, so our local clubs will be looking to return to full action after an opening that had been exciting before the weather intervened.
